Families residing on the streets will quickly get identification playing cards (IDs) to allow them to be higher monitored, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) stated.
According to a “24 Oras” report by Tina Panganiban-Perez, the road dwellers will even have to endure a biometrics registration.
“Kung sakaling bumalik siya sa lansangan at na-reach out siya ulit at ma-check natin sa database na nandoon siya then malalaman natin na may problema ‘yung intervention. Maaari yung programang binigay natin ay di naaangkop para sa kanya,” DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian stated.
The initiative is a part of the “Oplan Pag-abot” program launched by the departrment for people and households residing on the streets of Metro Manila.
Under this system, the DSWD will discuss with the goal beneficiaries to know the help they want. They will even be supplied with meals and drugs. The company will even assist them return to their provinces and get livelihood help. Children with out households will likely be adopted or positioned within the care of a guardian.
The program is being carried out with the Commission on Human Rights and the Metro Manila Council.
Gatchalian stated this system will respect the rights of the road dwellers. Getting them off the streets is not going to be compelled.
“There’s a proper way to convince somebody that it’s not good for you to stay in the streets,” Gatchalian added.—Sherylin Untalan/LDF, GMA Integrated News
