Queensland Health boss resigns after whistleblower threat

The director-general of Queensland Health has resigned after days of criticism over his submission to penalise whistleblowers who sound the alarm over the way in which the well being system is being run.

Shaun Drummond has advised Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk of his intention to stop.

There was no official announcement – as an alternative, Palaszczuk as we speak revealed he’d gone when 9News requested.

“Let me say that Mr Drummond has done an excellent job as the head of the department Mr Drummond has informed me that it’s his intention to step down from his position,” Palaszczuk stated.

Drummond is dealing with fierce criticism for a submission he made to a public disclosure legal guidelines inquiry.

It stated: “Consideration could be given to … penalties for inappropriately disclosing relevant information to journalists.”

Many interpreted this as a menace to whistleblowers who converse up and spotlight points within the state’s well being system.
