A search commenced about 10pm on Tuesday with a co-ordinated effort between the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) and Queensland Water Police.
It’s understood the alarm was raised about 6pm after the 31-year-old who was travelling between Getullia Island and Sue Island in Torres Strait didn’t arrive at his vacation spot.
He had set off on the journey about 9.30am earlier than being hit by unhealthy climate, with the circumstances additionally hampering preliminary search efforts.
After the search was known as off at night time, the rescue mission resumed about 6.30am with the Cairns-based Challenger rescue plane, a rescue helicopter and police boat all participating.
An upturned dinghy was situated within the water first round 11.30am, AMSA stated, and a short while later the lacking man was found about 2km away, clinging to a bit of particles within the open waters.
The man was winched to security and brought to Thursday Island to obtain medical help.
