LOS ANGELES, California – Invaders have taken over components of the US state of Nevada — however they don’t seem to be body-snatchers or aliens; they’re crickets.
Millions of Mormon crickets are swarming the city of Elko, masking roads and homes — even blocking hospital entry.
Residents say they’re fed up with the ground-dwelling creepy-crawlies.
“You feel super violated,” Colette Reynolds advised CBS.
“When you’re inside the house it sounds like it’s raining because they just randomly let go of wherever they’re hanging onto and drop.”
The creatures are even inflicting issues for the emergency providers.
“Just to get patients into the hospital we had people out there with leaf blowers, with brooms,” Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital’s Steve Burrows advised native KSL TV.
“At one point we even had a tractor with a snowplow on it just to push the piles of crickets and move them on their way,” he stated.
Nevada’s state entomologist Jeff Knight stated swarms of the crickets are usually not unusual within the area, however simply extra noticeable as human populations unfold to beforehand wild areas.
