Teenage sensation Rehan Ahmed says taking 5 wickets on his Test debut was a “dream come true” after his heroics left England on the point of victory within the third Test in opposition to Pakistan and a file clear sweep.
Ahmed dismissed Pakistan captain Babar Azam and key participant Mohammad Rizwan amongst others as his spin bowling proved the game-changer for England on day three.
The 18-year-old turned the youngest debutant in males’s Test historical past to take 5 wickets in a single innings, beating the file held by Australia’s Pat Cummins.
“It was probably the best day of my life,” Ahmed instructed the BBC. “To get a five-for on debut is a dream come true.
“I’ve bowled higher balls and never received wickets. To get Babar Azam out is a dream come true. He is an excellent participant.
“I liked the Rizwan wicket because I have been working hard on my leg-pin for the last two months with bowling coach Jeetan Patel. To get one to spin a little bit was great.”
Having bowled out Pakistan for 216 within the second innings, England are chasing a goal of 167.
They will resume at 2-112 on Tuesday, needing 55 runs to win the match and turn out to be the primary group to finish a 3-0 whitewash in Pakistan, having received the primary two Tests in Rawalpindi and Multan.
