A retiree has obtained the shock of a lifetime, successful $5m after forgetting she had even purchased a lottery ticket.

The lady, who lives within the western Sydney suburb of Guilford, obtained the life-changing news after the draw on Saturday, May 6.

She held the one division one successful entry within the Set for Life draw 2830, taking out the $4.8m prize.

“I’m absolutely astounded,” she revealed when chatting with lottery officers.

“I had completely forgotten that I’d bought a Set for Life ticket for last week, so this is a complete shock.”

Unsure if the decision was a rip-off at first, the sceptical Sydneysider enlisted the assistance of her nephew to find out whether or not somebody was “messing” along with her.

“Initially, he thought it might be some sort of scam,” she stated.

“But once he realised the truth, he couldn’t contain his excitement and joined in the celebration.”

Set to obtain $20,000 to her checking account each month for the following 20 years, the winner stated the very first thing on her purchasing record was a “new computer”.

There may even be one thing in it for her useful member of the family as effectively.

“I will contribute towards a holiday for my beloved nephew as well and look after some other loved ones,” she stated.

The fortunate woman stated she had been enjoying the sport, which was her “favourite”, for a number of years.

“So it’s nice to have finally won the big prize,” she stated.
