The Hobart Hurricanes gained the toss and are bowling of their season-opening BBL match towards the Melbourne Stars on the MCG.

The match began at 5pm as organisers experiment with the BBL schedule.

The Stars are coming off Tuesday’s one-wicket loss to the Sydney Thunder in Canberra.

The Stars had a pre-game ceremony to honour cricket legend Shane Warne, a key basis participant for the staff, who died immediately on March 4.

Play was being stopped after 23 balls – his favorite quantity – for a standing ovation.
