‘Like an earthquake’: New York City parking garage partially collapses, killing one
One individual has been killed when a parking storage partially collapsed in New York City.

Five individuals have been injured, Mayor Eric Adams stated.

The three-storey constructing fell round 4pm native time (6am AEST) just a few blocks from City Hall and the Brooklyn Bridge.

It is lower than a kilometre from the New York Stock Exchange.

Bystander video reveals vehicles hanging precariously from a buckled higher deck of the constructing.

“It felt like an earthquake,” Liam Gaeta, a pupil at close by Pace University, stated.

He stated he heard “a large noise and a big rumbling, and then we all got evacuated”.

Other Pace college students described listening to screams and seeing vehicles falling within the constructing when it caved in.

The Fire Department stated there have been studies of individuals trapped and that searches have been being carried out to ensure everybody was accounted for.

At one level, firefighters have been pulled out due to considerations concerning the constructing’s stability, the division stated.
