Exclusive: Jane Krakowski on blending her two loves of Broadway and television comedy in new musical series

Having discovered real love within the city of Schmigadoon, season two of Schmigadoon! finds Josh and Melissa in Schmicago, the reimagined world of ’60s and ’70s musicals.

“We’re in a whole new world now. We ain’t in Schmigadoon! anymore.”

“This time our heroes find themselves in a dark, seedy corrupt city named Schmicago, which focuses on the musicals of the ’60s and ’70s, which are, the darker, sexier, no-happy-ending musicals, which was the craze at the time”.

In this iteration of Schmigadoon!, Krakowski performs Bobbie Flanagan, a parody of Billy Flynn from Chicago.

“She’s a self-satisfied, corrupt lawyer that will pull every bell and whistle to win her case,” Krakowski explains.

Chicago’s Billy Flynn additionally was a straight-talking lawyer and was a male character.

“Obviously, we’re gender-swapping the roles of Bobbie to Billy. [But the character is] also a little bit of Roxy from Chicago, Sheila from A Chorus Line and a little Company.”

“I love Bobbie,” says Krakowski.

“She had an incredible wardrobe, was one of the highlights of season two for me. That wardrobe was insane and amazing.”

Just like the primary season, season two contains new authentic musical numbers from co-creator, government producer and showrunner Cinco Paul.
