New red-light speed camera at crash Sydney hotspot will be operational by Friday

A brand new visitors digital camera will catch harmful drivers dashing and dodging crimson lights at a crash hotspot in Sydney’s CBD.

A complete of 12 crashes have occurred on the intersection of Harris Street and William Henry Street in Ultimo over the previous 5 years injuring 13 individuals, six of them significantly.

Road security specialists hope the digital camera, on the intersection close to the Powerhouse Museum, will cease automobiles hitting walkers, or ‘T-boning’ different autos.

Tara McCarthy, Deputy Secretary of Safety, Environment and Regulation at Transport for NSW, stated the brand new digital camera will probably be in motion from Friday.

“About 30 per cent of red-light speed camera offences are from people running red lights so we are addressing this problem head-on,” she stated.

“Road crashes claimed the lives of 275 people on NSW roads last year with speed the biggest killer.

“The new red-light pace digital camera in Ultimo will assist this cut back danger.”

Research shows that red-light speed cameras dramatically reduce the number of serious crashes.

“The most up-to-date pace digital camera evaluation discovered deadly and critical harm crashes fell by 35 per cent at red-light pace digital camera areas, and pedestrian casualties fell by nearly 60 per cent,” McCarthy said.

The new camera will operate in warning mode for a month, during which time drivers caught speeding, or running red lights will be sent a warning letter

After that they’ll be slapped with fines and demerit points.
