WASHINGTON – There is little doubt Russia is committing warfare crimes in Ukraine, a US State Department spokesperson stated on Friday after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant towards Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“There is no doubt that Russia is committing war crimes and atrocities (in) Ukraine, and we have been clear that those responsible must be held accountable,” the spokesperson stated in an emailed assertion.
“This was a decision the ICC prosecutor reached independently based on the facts before him.”
Washington has individually concluded that Russian forces have dedicated warfare crimes in Ukraine and helps accountability for perpetrators of warfare crimes, the spokesperson added.
The United States will not be a member of the ICC.
The courtroom earlier on Friday referred to as for Putin’s arrest on suspicion of illegal deportation of youngsters and illegal switch of individuals from Ukraine to Russia since Moscow’s invasion on Feb. 24, 2022.
A US-backed report by Yale University researchers final month stated Russia has held not less than 6,000 Ukrainian youngsters in not less than 43 camps and different services as a part of a “large-scale systematic network”.
Moscow has repeatedly denied accusations that its forces have dedicated atrocities throughout its one-year invasion of its neighbor, and the Kremlin branded the courtroom resolution as “null and void.” — Reuters
