Japan parliament expels YouTuber MP who never came to work

TOKYO, Japan – A star gossip YouTuber-turned-lawmaker turned the primary MP expelled by Japan’s parliament in over 70 years Wednesday, having not proven as much as work as soon as.

Yoshikazu Higashitani, recognized by his on-line moniker GaaSyy, had been ordered to apologize for his months-long absence earlier in March.

But the lawmaker, one among two elected members of the perimeter celebration Seijika Joshi 48, or “Politician Girls 48”, didn’t attend that parliamentary session both.

Higashitani, 51, had not set foot within the House of Councillors since his July 2022 election, regardless of a requirement for lawmakers to be current.

The former businessman and YouTuber has as an alternative remained at his house in Dubai, claiming he could also be arrested if he returns to Japan, the place he reportedly faces questioning over alleged defamation.

Japan’s Upper House selected Tuesday to expel him from parliament.

The transfer was made official Wednesday — making him the primary Japanese lawmaker to be expelled since 1951, native media reported.

Higashitani will likely be changed by one other member of his celebration.
