Magpies’ Ginnivan taking steps towards AFL comeback

Jack Ginnivan is exhibiting optimistic indicators to Collingwood coach Craig McRae because the “hungry” ahead eyes a return to AFL motion later this month.

Ginnivan will watch the primary two rounds of the season from the sidelines after he was suspended for conduct unbecoming within the fallout from his summer season medicine scandal.

The 20-year-old skilled with Collingwood teammates on Wednesday as they ready for his or her season-opening blockbuster in opposition to reigning premiers Geelong.

“We’re pushing Jack really hard to be ready for round three when he’s available after his suspension,” McRae advised reporters after the session.

“We’ll weigh up what that looks like when he’s available.

“The hungry child that we would like him to be, I’m seeing that on the observe. That’s all we will ask.”

Ginnivan kicked 40 goals from 23 games last year in a breakout second season with Collingwood, playing a key role in their rise from 17th to a preliminary final.

But he was sanctioned last month by the AFL and the Magpies after a video was made public of the livewire forward with what he later admitted was an illicit substance.

On top of his suspension, Ginnivan was also hit with a strike under the league’s illicit drugs policy and handed a suspended $5000 fine.

Ginnivan later expressed remorse and vowed to work hard to earn back trust from his teammates, the club and its supporters.

Whether he is selected to make an immediate return in the round-three clash with Richmond remains to be seen.

Ginnivan’s suspension has opened the door for teammates, with fellow goal-sneak Bobby Hill capable of locking down a spot in McRae’s best side.

Hill, secured in a trade with GWS over the off-season, is likely to make his Collingwood debut against Geelong.

It can be the 23-year-old’s first AFL recreation since May final 12 months after his restoration from testicular most cancers.
