Aus survivor hero ‘Flick’ honours Mum in heartfelt tribute

Fresh from her second stint on Australian Survivor, Margaret River-born skilled massive wave surfer Felicity “Flick” Palmateer is taking over a brand new heroic position in honour of her late mom.

Ms Palmateer has been unveilled as Dementia Australia’s newest ambassador after she was impressed to help the non-profit organisation following the demise of her mom on the age of 52, whereas she competed on Australian Survivor: Brains V Brawn in 2021.

Ms Palmateer’s mom, Pauline, died of youthful onset frontotemporal dementia, a illness attributable to progressive harm to the frontal and/or temporal lobes of the mind, impacting language, behaviour and mobility.

“My mum, Pauline, was diagnosed at age 46 with frontotemporal dementia and over the next six years I watched her health slowly deteriorate,” she stated.

“Mum passed away during the last week I was a competitor on Australian Survivor in 2021.

“I made the extremely difficult choice to stay on the show because I realised I had a chance to live life in a way that my mum never had.

“And I knew publicity through the TV show would be a unique way to raise awareness about younger onset frontotemporal dementia.”

Ms Palmateer stated she was “so honoured” to be supplied the chance to grow to be a Dementia Australia ambassador.

“I am proudly committed to being an ambassador as an ongoing tribute to my mum, especially as few people my age are aware that it can happen to someone in their 40s or 50s,” she stated.

“Sharing my story will help anyone impacted by dementia feel a little less alone and help families to recognise the signs of dementia and seek support.

“I am in awe of my fellow ambassadors and look forward to meeting them and having a positive impact together.”

It comes after Ms Palmateer just lately competed on Australian Survivor: Heroes V Villains, beginning out as a part of the Heroes tribe and making it via 31 days in Samoa earlier than she turned the primary jury member voted out.
