Grassroots basketball put on spotlight as NBTC championship returns after three-year hiatus

The National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) highschool championship is about to return after a three-year hiatus, and grassroots-level basketball can be put to the highlight anew.

Program director Eric Altamirano stated after 13 years of holding the NBTC, the mission of the match stays the identical.

“It has always been our mission to put the spotlight on the grassroots level of Philippine basketball and after 13 years, that remains the same. We firmly believe that investing in the future now can only set us up for a brighter tomorrow,” Altamirano stated in a press convention on Thursday on the Mall of Asia Arena, the venue of the match’s National Finals which can be held from March 15 to 19.

Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas deputy govt director Butch Antonio echoed Altamirano.

“The NBTC has been a source of talent before and it will continue to do so,”

A complete of 24 groups, together with high groups from the NCAA, UAAP, Fil-foreign groups, and native groups, can be divided into two teams for the primary spherical of the tourney earlier than every division can be divided into 4 teams of three. The high groups from every group after a spherical robin will advance to the knockout semifinals.

Aside from the match correct, the NBTC may also have an All-Star Game, Slam Dunk Contest, Three-point shootout, and Skills Challenge.

The NBTC was final held again in 2019, with National University taking residence the crown for that season.
