KYIV – Ukraine on Thursday ordered the necessary evacuation of susceptible residents from the frontline metropolis of Kupiansk and adjoining northeastern territories as fears mount Russia will retake the important thing metropolis and rail hub.
In September, Russian troops retreated from key cities within the northeastern Kharkiv area, together with Kupiansk.
Kupiansk is close to the frontline in jap Ukraine and locals concern it might be taken over once more.
“Mandatory evacuation of families with children and residents with limited mobility began in Kupiansk community,” the Kharkiv regional navy administration mentioned on its web site.
“The decision was made… taking into account the unstable security situation due to constant shelling of the territory of the community by Russian troops,” it added.
Kharkiv area governor Oleg Synegubov mentioned Thursday Russia “shelled” a number of settlements within the area with artillery, a number of rocket launchers and mortars, together with the town of Kupiansk. — Agence France-Presse
