The Fremantle Chamber of Commerce has a brand new chief govt and she or he’s able to get everybody — particularly the Perth Lord Mayor — speaking in regards to the port metropolis.
Perth-born Chrissie Maus is returning house after 10 years and is keen to get to work in her new position armed with a wealth of information from her time as the pinnacle of the most important retail and leisure precinct in Australia — Melbourne’s Chapel Street.
“I grew up in Perth and my father grew up in Freo, so this is about coming home and returning to where my heart is,” Ms Maus mentioned.
“As the new chamber CEO, I’m going to make sure we aim for greatness and we are going to do stuff that makes people get off their couches and into our businesses.”
As for what she plans to do first as soon as again in Perth, she instructed PerthNow her first order of business might be a critical one.
“I want to strip off all my puffer jackets from Melbourne and put on my bright Perth sundress and go and have a swim at the beach,” she joked.
“But the real plan is to work out what we can do for our members and make sure every single person in Freo is proud of our brand because there’s so much great stuff going on here.
“What we are going to have is a future that is enviable, something where the people in the City of Perth are really looking to the City of Fremantle and go ‘wow, they are being talked about the most’.
“Basil Zempilas will have a lot of competition on his hands with me in Freo right now because I intend to be doing the most innovative stuff so that every time people think to go out and have some food, or to come somewhere with their family, they will think of Fremantle.”
Chamber president Lee Bartlett congratulated Ms Maus, who he described as a “brave business advocate and civic leader”.
“Chrissie Maus brings fresh eyes to WA’s cultural epicentre and an energy that is contagious,” Mr Bartlett mentioned.
“I know she will be a woman of substance and action for the Freo community. Her past experience has shown she is careful to anticipate and understand community sentiment and most importantly she will hang on to humanity in the face of challenges.”
Ms Maus mentioned she aimed to proceed on with the chamber’s “authentic support” of its members in a bid to make sure all business house owners really feel empowered.
“I want the members to know that they have a CEO in charge that is going to be there to be side by side with them no matter what happens,” she mentioned.
“In the good and the bad, I’ll make sure that their voice is heard and I’ll make sure that we are the most talked about area hopefully in the world.”
Ms Maus will begin on March 8.
