Calls to tighten bail laws amid youth crime crisis in Queensland

Former Queensland Corrective Services Director-General Keith Hamburger says sure younger offenders don’t want bail if they’re “problematic, difficult, dangerous people”.

His feedback come after Queensland Opposition Leader David Crisafulli proposed a plan to alter bail and detention legal guidelines to fight the state’s rising youth crime disaster.

“We don’t need bail for problematic, difficult, dangerous people,” Mr Hamburger informed Sky News Australia.

“They need to be fully assessed in an assessment centre, kept off the street before they go to court so bail is really not an option under the model we’re proposing.”
