Senator Raffy Tulfo on Tuesday requested the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) the measures they’re implementing to make sure that casual settlers might be protected in case of a robust earthquake.
Tulfo cited an article by Architect Felino Palafox that mentioned 30 to 40 p.c of the buildings in Metro Manila will collapse in case a 7.2 magnitude earthquake happens and majority of it will come from the casual sector.
Tulfo requested.
(Have you inspected the houses of the casual settlers? If you probably did, what sort of inspection was finished, and had been there any changes to make sure that the casual settlers wouldn’t be worn out in case of an earthquake?)
DPWH Undersecretary Maximo Carvajal nonetheless replied that the mandate of the company solely covers public buildings. He added that personal buildings or properties are inspected by constructing officers of native authorities items.
Tulfo was not glad with Carvajal’s reply and pressed DPWH’s John Alexander Belderol to reply.
Belderol mentioned the DPWH has data on the inspections that they’ve performed however they’ve but to collate it.
This prompted Senators Bong Revilla Jr. and Tulfo to remind the DPWH to be ready with their data each time they face the Senate.
—VAL, GMA Integrated News
