Deadly mosquito virus detected in South Australia for the first time

The lethal mosquito-borne virus Encephalitis has been detected for the primary time in regional South Australia.

The virus was present in Clare, two hours north of Adelaide, on a sentinel rooster farm.
These chickens are bred particularly to check the unfold of mosquito-transmitted viruses.

Encephalitis has not been detected in people since 2011, however SA Health is warning residents throughout the state to stay vigilant and put on mosquito repellent.
