Fugitive Darko ‘Dougie’ Desic returns to Sydney’s Northern Beaches
A fugitive who escaped jail and lived in Sydney for 3 many years working as a handyman has been welcomed dwelling to the Northern Beaches.

Darko “Dougie” Desic, then 35, allegedly used instruments together with a hacksaw blade and bolt cutters to free himself from the Grafton Correctional Centre, now referred to as the Grafton Intake and Transient Centre, in 1992.

Desic advised police he escaped jail as a result of he did not need to be deported again to war-torn Yugoslavia, a rustic that not exists.

He was arrested and charged with escaping from lawful custody and was jailed once more.

By December 2022, Desic had served the excellent 19 months of his unique 44-month sentence for hashish cultivation, plus an additional two months for breaking out.

On Monday the 65-year-old was launched from immigration detention and granted a everlasting visa to dwell in Australia.
