Victorian government scraps Melbourne’s Australia Day parade

The Victorian authorities has scrapped Melbourne’s Australia Day parade after two years of COVID cancellations.

The Andrews authorities will as a substitute mark the day with an occasion at Federation Square aimed toward reflecting, respecting and celebrating.

Victoria Opposition chief John Pesutto says the cancellation is deeply disappointing.

A flag-raising ceremony will nonetheless go forward at Government House, as will a gun salute on the Shrine of Remembrance.
