US fisherman missing overboard after hooking huge tuna
US rescuers looked for a 3rd day on Tuesday for a Hawaii fisherman who went overboard from a ship after hooking a tuna over the weekend.

Mark Knittle, 63, of Captain Cook, was fishing with a buddy off Honaunau on the Big Island on Sunday, when he hooked an ahi, or tuna, police mentioned.

“The friend heard Knittle say, ‘The fish is huge,’ then saw Knittle go overboard into the water,” in accordance with a police news launch.

The buddy tried to seize the road, however Knittle disappeared inside seconds, the discharge mentioned.

“Usually our incidents like this are alongside the coastlines. This is a special state of affairs as a result of it is out within the deep,” Darwin Okinaka, Hawaii County Fire Department assistant chief of operations, said.

According to police, Knittle and his friend were 6.4km from the Honaunau Boat Ramp.

“If there’s a fish that’s actually pulling him around, you don’t know where he could go,” Okinaka mentioned.

Ahi can weigh greater than 180kg.

Police described Knittle as weighing 84kg.
