Kremlin launches criminal probe against Russian actor Artur Smolyaninov
Russian authorities have introduced parallel legal probes towards a well-known actor important of the battle in Ukraine and a philanthropist who helps the Russian opposition, the most recent in a months-long, sweeping crackdown on dissent.

Russia’s Investigative Committee mentioned in a press release that its chief Alexander Bastrykin ordered the launch of a legal case towards Russian movie and theatre actor Artur Smolyaninov, who left the nation after Moscow’s forces invaded Ukraine and repeatedly spoke out towards the battle.

According to the assertion, Smolyaninov “made a series of statements directed against Russia in an interview to a Western media outlet.”

The Investigative Committee did not make clear which of Smolyaninov’s actions constituted a legal offence and what fees it might carry towards him.

Smolyaninov’s most up-to-date interview final week sparked outrage amongst Kremlin supporters. The actor advised the Novaya Gazeta Europe that if he needed to struggle within the battle, he would struggle “on the side of Ukraine.”

The probe towards Smolyaninov comes amid more and more harsh rhetoric about Russians who left the nation due to the battle.
