Chaos of flying bouncy castle described as ‘worst moment of my life’

Patrons have described chaotic scenes that unfolded when a seemingly joyous bouncy fort become a rolling terror on New Year’s Eve in Tauranga.

One individual was hospitalised and 4 others handled for accidents because the inflated object slipped its tethers and barrelled in direction of competition goers at Fergusson Park.

Video posted to social media reveals it hurtling by means of the group and stopping in need of a close-by seashore.

The incident on Saturday night time was reported to police at 7:42pm with a spokesperson saying, “One person appears to have sustained injuries.”

On Facebook, Jolene Wilson, who witnessed the incident described it as “quite horrible” and had wished these concerned the perfect.

Near the bouncy fort because it got here unfastened was KC Ann Southee, whose youngsters have been mere seconds away from climbing onto the inflatable attraction.

On social media Southee commented: “We were there. My kids were just about to jump on it and the lady working it said actually I want a safety check first.

“Then not even a second later it took off. It was chaos. I needed to bounce to the facet with my youngest. And misplaced my 2 oldest amongst it.”

Southee whose sons are neurodiverse it was the “worst second of my life.”

“I actually hope all of the folks that have been injured get well shortly,” she added.

Tauranga City Council addressed the incident on Facebook late on Saturday night.

“This night there was an incident with a bouncy fort at Fergusson Park’s New Year’s Eve group celebration in Matua. One individual was taken to hospital and 4 folks have been handled by medical employees on website.

“As a precaution, all inflatable devices were closed at all the community events as soon as we were notified of the incident.”

Worksafe was notified of the incident and the council stated in an announcement that they’d conduct their very own investigation too.
