Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David welcomed the news that former senator Leila de Lima has been launched on bail on Monday and raised a query on “delayed court decision,” in line with a put up on the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) web site.
“Praise God for this good news! But why only now? Why did it take this long for her to be granted bail?” stated Bishop David, who can also be CBCP President.
The CBCP reported that David stated the “delayed court decision only highlights the problems in the country’s justice system.”
“This case has made it so obvious that something is very wrong about our justice system,” he added.
Former senator Leila de Lima, a recognized critic of former President Rodrigo Duterte, has been detained in Camp Crame since February 2017 over allegations of drug commerce, which she has repeatedly denied.
On Monday, the previous senator was granted her petition for bail by Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 206.
De Lima’s first acquittal got here in February 2021 when Muntinlupa City RTC Branch 205 junked one in every of her three instances.
On May 12, Muntinlupa RTC Branch 204 acquitted de Lima and Ronnie Dayan, her co-accused and former bodyguard, of an unlawful drug buying and selling cost on the grounds of cheap doubt.
