The blaze within the neighborhood of Scrub Road and Billirimba Road, 4 kilometres southeast of Tenterfield, was uncontrolled and had burnt greater than 1100 hectares.
“The fire is impacting on homes and properties in the vicinity of Billirimba Road and Kochs Road, east of Tenterfield and south of the Bruxner Highway,” the Rural Fire Service (RFS) mentioned in an replace simply after 11pm.
“Embers will be blown long distances ahead of the main fire front starting spot fires, these may impact your home earlier than the main fire front.
“If you might be within the space of Kochs Road, east of Tenterfield and south of the Bruxner Highway, your life is in danger. It is simply too late to go away.”
Residents of Tenterfield were seeking refuge at the local showground.
Among them was Leo Perkins, who only moved to town on Tuesday.
“So that is my introduction to the Tenterfield life, right here on the evacuation centre,” he told 9News.
A south-easterly wind change impacted the fireground in Tenterfield, the RFS said, but conditions were forecast to ease later into the night.
As those conditions let up, a number of blazes across the state – including others near the Queensland border – have been reduced to watch and act warnings.
Among them was a blaze within the Clarence Valley area, which was moved to a watch and act stage hours after an earlier emergency warning on Tuesday night time.
A wind change had sent the fire burning at Glens Creek Road, Nymboidam – about 25 kilometres south-west of Grafton – in a northerly direction.
The blaze had already burnt through more than 8000 hectares and residents were being advised to monitor conditions.
An evacuation centre was set up at the Grafton Racecourse.
Tuesday’s blaze brought back painful memories for some residents, who are all too familiar with the threat after Black Summer.
“We went by means of it in 2019 and we’re fully distraught … we misplaced my mum’s home and we misplaced the whole lot we owned,” Nymboida resident Elizabeth Moore told 9News.
“Our plan is to remain as a result of it is not the kind of hearth that we had final time.”

A grass fire at Cooks Gap, which earlier was threatening an explosives storage facility in the state’s Central West, was also downgraded.
The earlier emergency warning – when nearby residents were told to flee on Tuesday afternoon amid fears the blaze will hit the stored explosives – was reduced to an advice warning.
“A hearth is burning within the neighborhood of Ulan Road, Cooks Gap 2km south of Ulan,” the RFS said.
“The alert stage for this fireplace has been downgraded to recommendation as situations ease.”
Almost 1000 RFS personnel were battling blazes through the night across the state.
People near the blazes were being advised to seek shelter in solid structures and to monitor the situation.
Another blaze that had reached emergency stage on the NSW-Queensland border city of Boggabilla has since been downgraded to observe and act.
