BEIJING – Intense rain from the remnants of Typhoon Haikui lashed southeastern China early on Wednesday, inflicting flooding and forcing cities in Fujian province to halt subways, shut colleges and evacuate residents.

The rainfall in a single day broke 12-year-old data in Fuzhou metropolis, meteorologists mentioned, triggering official warnings that 49 reservoirs had exceeded the flood restrict ranges.

The precipitation was heavier than the influence of Typhoon Doksuri, which ripped via Fujian in late July inflicting floods and $2 billion in direct financial losses, state media reported.

Fuzhou closed subway traces and suspended trains whereas colleges have been shut for a second day. More than 36,000 individuals have been evacuated from their houses.

Elsewhere in Fujian, six different cities together with Putian and Quanzhou have been flagged prone to flash floods and landslides. The provincial authorities ordered native authorities to be able to evacuate individuals from areas prone to be hardest hit.

The rains are anticipated to proceed within the central and southern elements of Fujian till Friday.
