Buddy ‘overwhelmed’ by emotional Swans send-off

Lance Franklin overwhelmed many an opponent throughout his close to two-decade profession that can doubtless earn him ‘legend’ standing within the Australian Football Hall of Fame in years to come back.

But it was the retiring West Aussie nice who was overwhelmed on Sunday when he was joined by his household in an emotional lap-of-honour send-off from the Sydney Swans devoted on the SCG.

Franklin carried his son Rocky round his former residence floor, with spouse Jesinta and daughter Tallulah in tow as he soaked within the cheers from the red-and-white devoted.

It was the 354-gamer’s first public look on the membership since he referred to as time on his profession final month with out even attending his personal retirement press convention.

“A lot of happiness, a little bit of sadness,” Franklin mentioned when requested about his feelings.

“It’s all come to an end.

“But I feel incredibly honoured to have played this great game for 19 years. I’m a little bit overwhelmed.”

Franklin, who booted 1066 targets throughout stints at Hawthorn and the Swans to take a seat fourth on the all-time AFL/VFL goalkicking tally, mentioned he would miss the joys of competitors and the locker room banter essentially the most.

“It’s absolutely incredible to be here and see our fans out here today. It’s awesome.

“Coming from the bush in Western Australia, I probably never thought this was possible.

“To play 19 years at two great clubs… I’m incredibly proud.”
