A waste firm has been discovered responsible of failing to take care of a protected office after a rubbish truck driver was crushed by a truck in 2019.
Country Cart employee Brian Rintoule, 55, was crushed to demise when his truck rolled ahead into the gate of a Leongatha property in southern Victoria.
Mr Rintoule had put the parking brake on and obtained out of the automobile to open a gate when the truck rolled ahead, pinning him towards the gate.
He was discovered the subsequent day, having died of traumatic asphyxia.
The firm pleaded responsible and was convicted of two offences and fined $300,000 on Monday.
County Court was discovered responsible of failing to supply or keep protected plant and failing to supply or keep protected techniques of labor.
Following the incident, a VicRoads inspector discovered the rubbish truck was “unroadworthy” resulting from a number of main defects, together with a defective parking brake and being overdue for all required companies.
WorkSafe appearing government director of well being and security Kelly Harris mentioned the demise highlighted the “terrible human cost of failing to follow the most basic of workplace safety procedures”.
“A thorough maintenance program and rigorous inspection of heavy vehicles is absolutely critical to protecting the health and safety of not only your workers but other road users and members of the public,” Ms Harris mentioned.
“We are still seeing too many preventable work-related fatalities on our roads and WorkSafe will continue to take strong action against employers not doing everything they can to control the known risks.”
