Two dead after suspected poisoning

Two aged girls have died in hospital following a suspected poisoning incident in Victoria’s south east.

Police imagine each girls, alongside two aged males, fell ailing after consuming a meal at a house in Leongatha on July 29.

All 4 have been taken to hospital the next day.

A spokesperson for Victoria Police stated police have been notified after the ladies, aged 66 and 70, died in hospital on Friday.

“At this time the exact circumstances are still being established and it is not known if the matter is suspicious,” she stated.

“The investigation into the incident remains ongoing and police will liaise with the Department of Health.”

The two males, aged 68 and 70, stay in hospital.

Leongatha is a rustic city located on the foothills of the Strzelecki Ranges, in Victoria’s Gippsland area.

A Department of Health spokesman confirmed the division was helping police with their investigation.

“The Department is aware of the situation and our investigations are ongoing,” he stated.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the patients’ family for their loss.”
